The days come
and go
some noteworthy
and remarkable
and some not worth
mentioning.
Why do we judge
a day by its clothes?
The most growth-
spurting days
are the most
ho-hum.
We feel like
nothing's getting
accomplished-
at least outwardly.
But inwardly
as Thoreau says
we're growing more
than corn
in the night.
So we walk
out our door
and greet
a new world
because we're new.
We have changed
so close to it
to not notice until
we measure
mostly by the
yardstick of others.
They hold us
accountable for
all our good works
and the reward
is in the being-
different, changed
better overall-
if we were
to judge.
